I’m a commercial, location and architectural photographer based in Tyneside. Working for the construction, design, tourism, retail, publishing, creative and industrial sectors
I studied photography at Plymouth College of Art and have been in business since 1991, a member of The Association of Photographers since 1994.
Each shoot involves planning as well as spontaneity plus the right social skills to make things happen on the shoot. Most of what I do is behind the scenes, getting that van moved, waiting for the right light and moment, talking to people, picking up litter, moving furniture etc.
Technically : I trained for four years and learnt how to handle cameras and lighting in any given situation. My kit is high end, extensive and high value, again to handle any situation. Landscapes in a remote valley, interiors in a stately home, industrial images in dangerous environments.
Some briefs are vague, some specific. Some deadlines are hours, some years.
The first step is to tell me what you want, why and when for.
Please, take a good look around and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
Born in Hartlepool, I loved taking photos as a teenager, starting out shooting landscapes and urbanscapes in Teesside and the Lake District. After A levels and a year out working in Greece, I went to Plymouth College of Art and learned how to be a commercial photographer and specialised in location and architecture.
After College I moved back to my native North East and set up in business with a 5x4 large format camera (the one you put a darkcloth over your head) and a Hasselblad in two huge cases. Nowadays of course it’s all digital and fits in a rucksack. While the kit has changed beyond recognition, the fundamentals of photography haven’t.
I have two grown up children and a dog. I play the piano, an amateur potter and I like to get out and about and enjoy comedy and culture.
